Sen. Ashley Moody announced $4.2 million in federal funding for Lehigh Acres Fire Control and Rescue District to hire 21 additional firefighters, paramedics and emergency medical technicians.

Lehigh Acres Fire Control and Rescue District will receive $4.2 million in federal funding to hire 21 additional firefighters, paramedics and emergency medical technicians. The funding comes through the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response Grant Program and will help the district respond to growing demand for emergency services. The three-year grant will cover at least 75% of personnel costs during the first two years and 35% in the third year, according to the district. Lehigh Acres Fire Rescue responded to nearly 1,500 more calls in 2025 than in 2023 and also provides mutual-aid services throughout Lee County.
