Merits Health Products moved production of its Pilot Navigator curved stairlift from Asia to south Fort Myers, where a new manufacturing facility opened Oct. 22. Called The Hangar, the operation is at 9983 Gulf Logistics Drive, just north of Alico Road near Southwest Florida International Airport. The company makes mobility and accessibility equipment, including stairlifts for curved residential staircases. President Andrew Maskery said the shift to domestic manufacturing should shorten delivery times and expand customization options. Merits also expects greater control over production and product quality. The company did not disclose the cost of the new facility or how many jobs it would create.
