NCH Rooney Heart Institute team marks first U.S. PASCAL heart valve repair

Members of the NCH Rooney Heart Institute team gather after the Naples hospital performed the nation’s first tricuspid valve repair using the PASCAL Precision system following FDA approval for the procedure. Led by Dr. Robert Cubeddu, the minimally invasive treatment offers another option for patients with severe heart valve leakage.

Naples Comprehensive Health’s Rooney Heart Institute performed the nation’s first tricuspid valve repair using Edwards Lifesciences’ PASCAL Precision system following federal approval for the procedure, according to NCH. Led by Dr. Robert Cubeddu, the minimally invasive treatment repairs a leaking heart valve through a catheter without open-heart surgery. NCH was the nation’s highest-enrolling clinical trial site for the treatment before its approval by the Food and Drug Administration. The procedure offers another option for patients with severe tricuspid regurgitation who remain symptomatic despite medication and face elevated surgical risks.
