Charlotte County faces rural transformation with new housing development

A proposed Pulte Group development called Meadow Vue could bring 8,000 new homes to rural Charlotte County, raising concerns among residents about preserving the area’s quiet, natural landscape.

Residents in rural Charlotte County are expressing concern over a proposed housing development that could bring up to 8,000 homes to the area outside Punta Gorda. The project, called Meadow Vue, is being proposed by Pulte Group and would transform what is currently a quiet, rural landscape of trees and open fields. Some residents, like wildlife photographer David Sussman, say the project threatens the Old Florida charm that drew them to the area. The Charlotte County Commission meeting to discuss the proposal was postponed to Dec. 9. Residents continue to voice concerns about the impact of large-scale development on the county’s rural character, WINK News reports.
