Construction on the $1.2 billion Concourse E expansion at Southwest Florida International Airport in south Fort Myers reached a major milestone, with completion expected in approximately one year. The project will add 14 gates and 500,000 square feet of space, along with new restaurants, a United Airlines lounge and a centralized Transportation Security Administration checkpoint. Construction began in October 2024, following an earlier phase of terminal improvements that experienced delays. Airport officials said work on Concourse E has progressed without similar setbacks. Roadway improvements are also underway to accommodate increased airport traffic. The new concourse is designed to allow additional expansion as passenger demand grows, WINK News reports.
