Lee Health tops Southwest Florida employers

Lee Memorial Hospital in Fort Myers is part of Lee Health, Southwest Florida’s largest employer, reflecting the region’s strong demand for health care services and workers.

Three Southwest Florida organizations are among 37 statewide recipients sharing $14.6 million through Florida’s Pathways to Career Opportunities Grant program to expand registered apprenticeship and preapprenticeship training.

Local awardees include Lee Health, Project Build SWFL and the Florida Gulf Coast Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors. The grants support programs that combine classroom instruction with paid, on-the-job training to prepare students for high-demand careers.

Statewide, the funding is expected to help more than 8,000 students through apprenticeship opportunities in healthcare, construction, skilled trades and other industries. The Florida Department of Education said the grants are intended to help employers address workforce shortages while expanding career pathways for students and job seekers.
