VITA volunteers Yunier Lopez, left, Claudia Portalatin and Maria Meglio support United Way of Lee, Hendry, and Glades’ free tax preparation program.
United Way of Lee, Hendry, and Glades is seeking volunteers for its free tax preparation program during the 2027 filing season. Volunteers with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program help prepare tax returns for families and individuals earning $100,000 or less at more than 25 Southwest Florida locations. Free training begins in November, with flexible volunteer hours available from January through April. Last year, 234 volunteers prepared more than 9,000 returns, helping bring more than $11 million in federal refunds to local households. United Way estimates the program also saved taxpayers $2.7 million in tax preparation fees. To register, click here.
