More than 350 volunteers joined Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation’s Coastal Watch to remove over 900 pounds of trash during the Ocean Conservancy’s 40th International Coastal Cleanup on Sanibel and Captiva. The global event Sept. 20 brought together more than 20 groups, including Bank of the Islands, WINK News, Doc Ford’s and Sanibel-Captiva Rotary. Companies, such as Bank of the Islands, Bones Coffee and Hooked Dumpster, supported the cleanup with T-shirts, breakfast and waste disposal. Organizers said the effort highlights the community’s commitment to combating plastic pollution and protecting fragile ecosystems.
