At the Bonita Springs City Council meeting June 4, council members revived old discussions about building a fishing pier. City management told Council that officials in 2016 produced a water access feasibility study looking at conceptual plans at Lovers Key State Park and Dog Beach. District 2 Council member Jesse Purdon said there are many places for a fishing pier. He envisioned one that might include the best elements of piers throughout the state and amenities, including a restaurant, bait shop and parking. “I think a pier could be a beautiful accent to all of the work that we’ve done and really kind of top of Bonita and leave our grandkids something very special,” Purdon said. Council members Chris Corrie and Nigel Fullick, and several members of the public, also voiced support for the idea.
