Lee County is weighing a possible toll increase on the Midpoint and Cape Coral bridges to help close a projected $13 million budget shortfall. Residents and business owners in Cape Coral, the county’s largest city, are voicing concern, saying they already bear much of the toll burden. Business owner Oscar Lopez said his fleet crosses the bridge multiple times daily, costing hundreds each month. While some residents oppose any hike, others say they’re open to increases if funds are used for bridge maintenance. The county also is evaluating other options, including new fees and property tax hikes. Commissioners are expected to vote on the final plan in September, WINK News reports.
