Collier County has partnered with Charleston County, South Carolina, to develop a backup 911 system designed to prevent outages similar to the one experienced during Hurricane Ian. If Collier’s emergency communications go down, Charleston operators will answer calls and dispatch help using location-sharing technology. The collaboration is one of the first of its kind in the nation. The counties have tested the system and trained staff on each other’s geography and protocols to ensure a seamless transition during emergencies, WINK News reports.
