Conservancy of Southwest Florida removed a record 6,300 pounds of invasive Burmese pythons during the 2024-25 season, marking a milestone in its decade-long effort to protect native wildlife. Using radio-tagged scout snakes, the team targets reproductive females across a 200-square-mile area. Since 2013, the program has removed more than 40,000 pounds of pythons and prevented 20,000 eggs from hatching. The effort has garnered global recognition for its research and removal efforts, including the capture of record-breaking snakes and contributions to more than 20 scientific publications.
