Bailey’s General Store, a Sanibel staple since 1899, began demolition Friday of its original building that was severely damaged by Hurricane Ian. The historic service station reminded visitors that the building used to be an old gas station. The current Bailey’s building, built in 1965, will be rebuilt from scratch on the same site, the corner of Tarpon Bay Road and Periwinkle Way. The demolition process is expected to take a week, WINK News reports.
