The Florida Department of Transportation awarded the city of Sanibel $2.5 million toward replacement of the East Periwinkle Way bridge damaged by Hurricane Ian, in addition to its previous $750,000 to design and engineer a new bridge. A contract calls for the bridge, located east of Causeway Boulevard and west of Limpet Drive, to be capable of withstanding future storm surge and flooding, with construction complete before Dec. 31, 2030. The city plans to provide contract administration, management services, construction engineering and inspection services, along with quality acceptance reviews of all work associated with the construction phase for the resurfacing of Periwinkle Way.
