Algae blooms are popping up in Southwest Florida. The Florida Department of Health issued a warning about an algae bloom along the Killer Canal in Cape Coral. WINK News took a sample of water in Killer Canal and brought it to Barry Rosen at the Florida Gulf Coast University Water School for testing. Rosen said the sample doesn’t show signs of toxic blue-green algae. Instead, the sample appeared to be a filamentous green algae, which is common and not toxic, WINK News reports.
