Bankruptcy filings in Florida rose 23.5% in the 12-month period ending June 30, totaling 40,679 cases, up from 32,933 the year before, according to federal court data. The Middle District, covering Naples to Jacksonville, saw the most cases at 23,442 — up 26.9%. Nationally, bankruptcies rose 11.5%. Though filings have increased for nine straight quarters, officials noted the totals remain far below the 2010 peak of nearly 1.6 million.
