Florida ranks first in the nation for flood-damaged vehicles on the road, with an estimated 82,100 water-logged cars, according to Carfax data. That’s nearly 20,000 more than second-place Texas and part of a nationwide total of 482,000 flood-damaged vehicles already in circulation. The top five states are Florida, Texas, Kentucky, Pennsylvania and Ohio. An additional 45,000 vehicles may have been damaged in severe storms between April and July, raising concerns that flood-compromised vehicles could be resold across state lines to unsuspecting buyers. Consumers can check a vehicle’s history for signs of water damage using CARFAX’s free Flood Check tool.
