Fort Myers Beach Town Council member Karen Woodson first raised the idea last month of adding tolls to Matanzas Pass Bridge and Big Carlos Pass Bridge to reduce traffic on the barrier island. During an Aug. 7 meeting, Woodson said she discussed the matter with Lee County and discovered the town can’t impose tolls on Matanzas Pass Bridge because it isn’t replacing it or adding a new one. On the other hand, while Big Carlos Pass Bridge is currently under construction, Woodson said the discussion to implement tolls would have had to happen before applying for or receiving federal money and building the bridge, WINK News reports.
