The School District of Lee County has cut teacher vacancies by 72% since April, dropping from 575 to just 65 ahead of the Aug. 11 school start. District officials said every classroom will be led by a certified teacher, a first in several years. Of the district’s 82 traditional K-12 schools, 53 have zero vacancies, 13 have one and 16 have two or more. Certified staff in other roles will fill in where needed as hiring continues.
