Work begins July 14 on a $4.7 million project to improve the intersection of North Collier Boulevard and North Barfield Drive — considered Marco Island’s most deficient intersection. The two-phase project will address heavy traffic backups, particularly during peak hours and emergency evacuations. Phase one includes daytime replacement of underground water and sewer lines, with one southbound lane on Collier Boulevard closed. Phase two, expected to begin in November, will involve nighttime roadwork including medians, paving and new traffic signals. Coastal Site Development will handle construction, which is funded in the city’s fiscal year 2024-25 capital budget.
