Naples Airport’s operations team completed training on its new Tiger Dam flood barrier system, designed to protect key airport facilities from storm surge. The system uses industrial-grade tubing filled with water to create an airtight barrier, offering a faster and more effective alternative to sandbags. Purchased from U.S. Flood Control, the 3,000 feet of tubing will safeguard terminals, offices and fuel farm. The $259,370 project was funded through airport revenues, as Naples Airport operates without local taxpayer dollars. During Hurricane Ian in 2022, parts of the airport came within inches of catastrophic flooding, prompting this proactive step.
