Although Southwest Florida’s total nonagricultural employment increased by 10,600 jobs year over year in June, unemployment rates in the Fort Myers and Naples areas increased from 0.3% to 3.6% and 0.2% to 3.3%, respectively, according to data from FloridaCommerce. The Fort Myers area’s total nonagricultural employment grew by 5,500 jobs (1.8%) over the year, and the Naples area’s total nonagricultural employment increased by 5,100 jobs (3%). The Naples area labor force increased by 0.9% since June 2023, and the Fort Myers area labor force was up less than 0.1%. The Fort Myers area industries gaining the most jobs over the year were construction, increasing by 2,400 jobs, and government, increasing by 1,600 jobs. The Naples area industries gaining the most jobs were leisure and hospitality, increasing by 1,800 jobs, and education and health services, increasing by 1,000 jobs.
