Lee County began debris collection from Hurricane Milton. Its disaster debris contractor currently has multiple trucks with loadable trailers on the road. The first pass to pick up debris began Oct. 14 and covered areas of unincorporated Lee County, including North Fort Myers, the Greater Pine Island-Matlacha area and areas along the Caloosahatchee River to Olga. On Oct. 15, the county’s contractor was in Island Park in south Fort Myers.
Lee County reminds residents:
- Separate your waste into three piles – vegetative debris, construction debris and appliances. Please remove any food from appliances and secure or remove doors before setting curbside. Debris should not be placed in black bags – instead, stack in neat piles or containerize your material.
- Household chemical waste (HCW) should not be set at the curb. Take these materials to the permanent HCW drop-off facility at 6441 Topaz Ct., Fort Myers. Lee County’s mobile HCW truck will be located at Phillips Park on Pine Island from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, for easy resident drop-off.
- Normal garbage collection has resumed and takes place on your regular collection day. The focus this week is to remove wet trash and spoiled food.
- Recycling and yard waste collection are currently suspended. Lee County will announce when regular collections resume by the end of this week.
- Lee County has four public drop-off sites available to residents who would like to self-haul debris or yard waste rather than wait for curbside pickup:

- 50 South Road, Fort Myers, FL 33907
