Fort Myers City Council completed a grant agreement awarding The Salvation Army $13,093,500 to construct a new Fort Myers facility center with three public service buildings: The Emergency Supportive Shelter will house people experiencing homelessness; The Public Shelter & Community Connector will be a storm-resilient public shelter and dining facility; and The Life Recovery Supportive Shelter will provide addiction recovery services. The money is part of the Community Development Block Grant for Disaster Recovery funding that the federal government awarded Lee County, with the City of Fort Myers authorizing a subgrantee agreement with The Salvation Army. City staff said the nonprofit’s Center of Hope Campus “provides the social infrastructure necessary to serve the region’s vulnerable populations, prioritizing those without stable housing.”
