The state added $280 million to the My Safe Florida Home program for the 2025-26 fiscal year, enough to serve 45,000 existing applicants. Homeowners can reapply beginning Aug. 4. The program offers free wind mitigation inspections and matching grants to help strengthen homes against storms. Inspections alone can reduce insurance premiums, with participants saving an average of $1,014, state Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis said.
The funding includes $94 million for grants, $1.5 million for inspections and $180 million in one-time funds to address backlog. To qualify, homes must be insured for $700,000 or less, built before 2008 and have completed a state inspection. Grants match $2 for every $1 spent, up to $10,000. Eligible improvements include roof attachments, window upgrades and more.
