The United Way of Lee, Hendry and Glades’ Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program delivered a $12.1 million economic impact during the 2024 tax season, officials for the nonprofit reported. A team of 234 IRS-certified volunteers completed 8,483 tax returns, securing $8.9 million in refunds for households earning $66,000 or less. An additional $3.2 million was saved through avoided fees and volunteer service. The program expanded to 21 sites across five counties and hosted 12 special events.
