Lee County’s Wa-Ke Hatchee Recreation Center, which has been closed since September 2022 due to damage from Hurricane Ian, will reopen to the public with limited amenities at 7 a.m. June 10. Flooding caused extensive damage to the building that is attached to Lexington Middle School. Lee County has been working with the School District of Lee County through the Federal Emergency Management Agency Public Assistance process on repairs to ensure federal reimbursement for the work. Amenities are limited because repairs are ongoing. The center, 16760 Bass Road in Fort Myers, will be open 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays for summer camp. The gymnasium and game room will be open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. Parking sticker and membership purchases may be made during open business hours.
