Whataburger is preparing to open its first Southwest Florida restaurant in south Fort Myers in early September, with a second location in Estero expected to follow by the end of October.

Whataburger will open its first Southwest Florida restaurant Sept. 10 at 12916 S. Cleveland Ave. in south Fort Myers, just north of Mission BBQ. The San Antonio-based burger chain will begin serving customers at 11 a.m. and operate 24 hours a day with dine-in and drive-thru service. The 86-seat restaurant replaces Aussie Grill and, before that, Boston Market. General Manager Greg Dunn will lead a staff of 121 employees. The first two customers in line and first two vehicles in the drive-thru will receive free Whataburger for a year. A second Southwest Florida location is expected to open by the end of October at 22927 Lyden Drive in Estero, across from Coconut Point.
