A federal judge denied a bid to stop the Kingston development near Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary, allowing construction to continue as the Audubon Society pursues ongoing legal challenges to federal permits.
The National Audubon Society is suing two federal agencies over their approval of the massive Kingston development in Lee County. The 10,000-home project borders Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary, a globally recognized wetland and habitat for endangered species, including the Florida panther. Audubon argues the project will damage water quality, block wildlife corridors and threaten rare species.
