Suffolk recently donated Building Information Models (BIMs) for the new Gateway High School contracted by the Lee County School District to Florida Gulf Coast University’s (FGCU) construction management program in the U.A. Whitaker College of Engineering. BIM is a collaborative 3D modeling process that allows Suffolk to solve constructability and coordination issues before work commences in the field, ultimately saving clients time and money. Suffolk pairs the model with cost and schedule data and utilizes the 3D visualization tools to develop more accurate logistics and safety plans, according to a news release. The models will be featured in the course titled “Building Information Modeling,” in which students learn the basics of 3D modeling and go through the full process of building a 3D model of a residential unit. Gateway High is scheduled to open in 2021.
