Rejuvenation plans include more than a half-dozen new restaurants and retail shops coming soon to The Shoppes at Dockside near Tin City in Naples.
Less than a third of the more than 22,000-square-foot rustic waterside units have businesses operating now, but the new retailers are building out spaces to join Mino Italian restaurant and Shabby Chic Boutique there at the former Dockside Boardwalk, 1100 Sixth Ave. S. The Shoppes at Dockside LLC acquired the four mixed-use commercial buildings March for $4.89 million on 1 acre at Dockside Boardwalk, where the Gordon River flows into Naples Bay.
“We’ve really come a long way in six or seven months,” says ownership representative Clayton Coleman. “Most of the major renovations have been completed.” The new owners replaced the roof, repaired the wooden boardwalk, recoated the asphalt parking lot, improved lighting and landscaping, and cleaned and painted interiors of some of the units in preparation for new tenants, Coleman said. 
Sea Monkey Grill & Tavern is moving into the large space where The Parrot Bar & Grill operated for about 11 years. The Parrot was evicted in early September after losing a Collier County court case to extend its lease another five years. Sea Monkey will be operated by Massimo “Max” Puglielli, who has owned and operated Mino at Dockside for more than five years.
Other eateries coming to the adjoining, quaint shops include La Casa dell Anima, an Italian restaurant relocating from East Naples; Sandra’s Sweet & Savory, which will have pies, baked goods and coffee; and The Bowl Bazaar, which will sell organic rice bowls. Second-floor offices are planned for Ann Bollin Ceramics, which creates custom, handmade pottery; Moke America, a consultant for custom electric golf carts; and Primera Technology, a company for printing products.
“We are excited to get stores open,” Coleman says. “I really think by the end of the year, they’ll be a lot of these stores open.”
The Shoppes at Dockside is still actively seeking tenants for vacant units. “We are very open to lots of different local businesses and concepts,” Coleman says. “We’re very flexible.” He said he hopes to see more clothing stores, especially one with a beach and fishing vibe, as well as gift shops and jewelry stores. Because of its proximity to a marina, office space for uses such as charter boat rentals and dolphin tours would be ideal.
