BBGI POSTS Q2 EARNINGS
Naples-based Beasley Broadcast Group posted a net income of $4.9 million for the three months ended June 30, up from $3.9 million in the same period last year. For the six months ended June 30, Beasley recorded a net income of $1.8 million, down from $11.3 million in the same period last year. On May 1, 2017, the company completed the sale of six stations in Greenville-New Bern-Jacksonville, and that December, Beasley exchanged its Boston adult contemporary station WMJX-FM and $12 million for Boston’s sports station WBZ-FM. The results reflect the operations and results from WBZ-FM in the three and six months ended June 30 and WMJX-FM in the three and six months ended June 30, 2017. The results also reflect one month of contribution from the Greenville-New Bern-Jacksonville stations in the three-month period, and four months of contribution in the six-month period ended June 30, 2017.
STICKBOY CREATIVE, T3 ENTER PARTNERSHIP
Stickboy Creative and T3 Communications have recently partnered. Stickboy Creative has made an equity investment in T3 Communications, a subsidiary of Digerati Technologies. Digerati is a publicly-traded holding company and a multi-year recipient of Deloitte’s Fast500 and Fast50 Awards. T3 specialties include cloud-based hosted PBX, integrated voice and data, broadband and metro ethernet, colocation and disaster recovery, SecureBoost and accession. Stickboy Creative, founded in 2007 by Reema Bhatia, a member of the Forbes Technology Council, is also the technology partner with the Tamiami Angel Funds in Naples.
COLLIER SPORTS MARKETING MEETING UPCOMING
The Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), Gulf Coast Chapter will meet from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Aug. 28 at the Naples Hilton. Guest speakers Jack W. Wert and JoNell Modys of the Naples, Marco Island, Everglades Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB), will discuss “Sports Marketing in Collier County.” They also will provide tips for how public relations professionals can leverage the CVB to enhance their outreach objectives. The cost is $30 for PRSA members, $38 for nonmembers, and $25 for students. Reservations are required by Aug.24 at www.gulfcoastprsa.org.
CWK APPOINTS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Calusa Waterkeeper (CWK) has named community organizer and international media specialist K.C. Schulberg as executive director, effective immediately. Schulberg, whose background merges film, television, marketing and fundraising with hands on civic engagement and community organizing, will bring a new global set of tools to CWK's mission: to protect and preserve the Caloosahatchee River from Lake Okeechobee to the coastal waters. Schulberg's first task will be to promote an Aug. 14 screening of the award-winning documentary film, TOXIC PUZZLE, at the Broadway Palms Dinner Theatre in Fort Myers. Directly following the screening, a group of panelists, including Dr. James Metcalf, Dr. Larry Brand, Dr. Walter Bradley, along with "Waterkeeper" John Cassani, will conduct a discussion on the health risks associated with the algae bloom crisis. The panel discussion will be moderated by Rae Ann Wessel of Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation (SCCF), with introductory remarks by Representative Heather Fitzenhagen. Proceeds from the screening will be split between nonprofits, CWK and Captains for Clean Water.
SMITH JOINS COUNTRYSIDE GOLF, COUNTRY CLUB
Joe Smith is the new general manager/COO of Countryside Golf & Country Club in Naples. Smith previously served as the senior director of hospitality at Shell Point Retirement Community in Fort Myers. While at Shell Point, he managed a team of 400-plus employees and was responsible for the lifestyle amenities. Prior to Shell Point, he was a 16-year employee of WCI Communities LLC and directly oversaw the Club at Pelican Preserve and the Pelican Preserve Town Center. He also served as club operations manager at the Colony Golf & Bay Club in addition to several other positions within WCI.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR READINGPALS PROGRAM
United Way of Lee, Hendry, Glades, and Okeechobee is recruiting volunteers for the United Way ReadingPals program to read to 4 and 5-year-olds at 17 school sites in Lee and Hendry counties. Reading Pals help build a strong foundation for literacy and a love of reading in young children. The program requires a commitment of one hour per week during the school year. During this time, readers are matched with pairs of pre-K or kindergarten-age children who need extra help. Volunteers are needed in all areas of the community. Community Foundation of Collier County awards $15,000 to PLAN
Physician Led Access Network (PLAN) of Collier County has received a grant of $15,000 from the Angel Fund for Small Nonprofits of the Community Foundation of Collier County. The grant will be used to increase access to healthcare for low-income, uninsured adults in Collier County. PLAN coordinates quality healthcare for qualified low-income, uninsured Collier County residents ages 19 to 64. Through an integrated system, PLAN completes intakes with potential clients to verify their eligibility. Physicians and other healthcare providers enrolled with PLAN serve as volunteers and provide services to PLAN patients at no charge. Last year, PLAN coordinated 3,820 medical appointments, an average of 318 appointments per month.
