Cape Coral Commons, a shopping center that took years to develop on what used to be empty land and an aging Circle-K gas station, is finally taking shape.

It’s taking shape not just with the outside walls but also the signed leases for the food and service businesses that will be inside of them upon completion, sometime this summer.

“We’ve got quite the lineup over there,” said Danielle Robinson, managing director of retail operations with Colliers, the leasing agent.

P.J.’s Coffee, which is a New Orleans-based chain, will be opening its first Southwest Florida location in the center. As well, a nail spa, Firehouse Subs, Mission BBQ, Love Boat Ice Cream and First Watch also will open at the northwest corner of Pine Island Road and Del Prado Boulevard.

“We’re also in lease negotiations with a very large mattress store,” Robinson said. Other businesses are in negotiations.

Tire Kingdom will be in a stand-alone building to the north.

Thompson Thrift Retail Group, which has two corporate offices in Indiana and others in Houston and Phoenix owns the land.

“There used to be 18 different owners,” said Robinson, who met with Thompson Thrift and brokered the site in February 2020 for $4.25 million, property records show.

Thompson Thrift also owns Edge75, a 320-unit apartment complex at 120 Bedzel Circle in Naples.
