Even before permitting was finalized in 2017, a team of architects, contractors and designers from The Clive Daniel Home—Hospitality Division began drawing, sketching and presenting ideas on how to make all of the different elements work together in the public spaces at The Kraft Office Center, 3530 Kraft Road in Naples.

“In the initial meetings, we all met as a group and, directionally, we were given the same parameters: This is going to be a modern scape inside and out—clean—and we were all to be in synergy from the outside to the inside,” explains Nancy Woodhouse, IDS, associate ASID. “That was the goal.”

Clive Daniel’s team, including Woodhouse and interior designer Adnilem Barrera, was charged with designing the public spaces—65,000 square feet in total—of the Class A office building that includes medical practices and attorneys among its occupants.

“We knew that it had to have a certain appeal and a little creative twist on it that you wouldn’t normally see in an office building,” says Woodhouse, referencing the cantilever wood that extends from a wall across the ceiling in the lobby’s seating area. Designer furnishings from Adriana Hoyos and a custom-made, 96-inch-by-66-inch piece of art by artist H. Scott from RFA Decor in Boca Raton add the finishing touches to the space. The price tag for the interior furnishings within the public spaces totaled $25,000. Woodhouse said that the aesthetic of the building’s public spaces is a nod to biophilic design, which engages elements of nature.

The building’s public spaces engage elements of nature.

That natural flood of lighting that you get in the atrium space was a big element to the design,” she says. “Using nature to work to your design, to showcase that cantilever wood and the emulated stone flooring throughout—it captures the feeling of nature and wood and texture together. “It’s neat how all those elements work together,” Woodhouse adds.

Of the projects she has worked on, The Kraft Office Center is among Barrera’s favorites.

“To have the opportunity to make it timeless and modern, and the owner gave us freedom on design, made it really fun,” she says.

“Lobbies are no longer entrances into buildings,” says Woodhouse. “They are our first chance to convey that first impression of the entire space and what clients are moving into. It’s design, but there is more to it than picking a sofa and pretty fabric.”

For their design of The Kraft Office Center’s public space, in 2019 Clive Daniel Home was awarded the Collier Building Industry Association’s Sand Dollar Award, Interior Design of the Year—Commercial (under $100,000), and a Lee Building Industry Association Summit Award.
