An aerial view of undeveloped land and residential neighborhoods in northwest Cape Coral. The city's North 3 Utilities Extension Project, which would bring municipal water, wastewater and irrigation services to approximately 5,180 parcels, faces a potential 12-month delay after City Council directed staff to eliminate proposed roadway improvements and rebid construction work.
Cape Coral City Council has agreed to pause the North 3 Utility Expansion Project and redesign its roadway component after proposed improvements drew objections over property assessments. The project, covering neighborhoods west of Burnt Store Road in northwest Cape Coral, will be rebid without the Alternative 5 road design, which would have added about $17.3 million to construction costs. The change could reduce assessments for standard properties from $41,029 to $38,228, based on current estimates. The redesign is expected to cost about $3 million. A homeowner meeting scheduled for Oct. 19 was canceled, and Council is expected to consider repealing three assessment resolutions Nov. 2.
