Carlstadt Beer and Wine Bar at University Village Shops near Florida Gulf Coast University closed Sept. 29 after nearly a year in business. The neighborhood bar featured Florida craft beers, wines and community events.
Carlstadt Beer and Wine Bar permanently closed after nearly a year in business. Owners Garrett Fay Hamilton and Michelle Hamilton closed the bar Sept. 29 at 19800 Village Center Drive, Unit 220, in University Village Shops, off Ben Hill Griffin Parkway just north of Estero Parkway near Florida Gulf Coast University. Carlstadt opened in October 2025 with rotating taps of Florida craft beers and a selection of wines from around the world. Named for Garrett Hamilton’s hometown of Carlstadt, New Jersey, the neighborhood bar also hosted trivia, movie marathons, fundraisers and other community events.
