Collier County tourism spending increased in August despite declining paid lodging stays, as more visitors opted for unpaid accommodations. The county welcomed an estimated 241,300 visitors, up 6.2% from August 2025, according to research firm Downs & St. Germain. Direct visitor spending climbed 7.8% to $169 million, while paid room nights fell 1.7% to 184,000. Overall lodging occupancy slipped to 45.5%, although the average daily rate rose 12% to $261.89. Hotel occupancy increased to 52.8%, even as group demand dropped 36.9%. International visitation rose 18%, led by growth from Canada and Europe. The figures suggest stronger visitor spending without corresponding growth in paid accommodations, WINK News reports.
