Florida reported 5,919 first-time unemployment claims for the week ending Sept. 13, a slight increase from 5,803 the previous week, according to the Department of Labor. The state has averaged 6,364 initial claims weekly in 2025. Nationally, claims fell to 231,000 after spiking to 264,000 the week prior, the highest total since October 2021. While the national figures are seasonally adjusted, state totals are not.
