Florida’s unemployment rate fell to 4.5% in August, its third consecutive monthly decline, according to the state Department of Commerce. The rate dropped from 4.6% in July but remained above the national rate of 4.1% and Florida’s 4% rate a year earlier. About 502,000 Floridians were unemployed out of a labor force of 11.1 million, 12,000 fewer than in July. Healthcare and social assistance continued to drive job gains, while financial activities lost 14,300 jobs over the year.
