Fort Myers City Manager Marty Lawing will retire Dec. 9 after a 43-year career in local government. Lawing, 65, announced his retirement Sept. 24, saying he plans to focus on personal and family priorities. He joined Fort Myers in 2021 after serving as county manager of Guilford County, North Carolina, and has worked in city and county management across three states. Lawing notified Mayor Kevin Anderson and City Council members of his plans by email. He said he has enjoyed positive relationships with the council and department directors and expressed confidence that Fort Myers will continue moving forward after his departure.
