The Fort Myers Community Redevelopment Agency acquired three connected parcels or .68 acres next to historic McCollum Hall on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. The CRA Board of Commissioners on April 22 approved the purchase for $650,000 plus associated closing costs from property owner David Peterson. The parcels adjoin the McCollum property, completing the redevelopment agency’s acquisition of land next to McCollum from Cranford Avenue to Palm Avenue. The purchase also includes a small cement-block building. The CRA’s McCollum property, now including the parcels at 2755, 2769 and 2775 Dr. MLK Jr. Blvd., is part of its plans to restore McCollum and develop the area in accordance with the Dr. MLK Jr. and Veronica S. Shoemaker Boulevards Revitalization Plan. The purchase is funded by the CRA’s Dr. MLK Jr. Redevelopment Area trust fund.
