The Southwest Florida Enterprise Center, a municipal business incubator for microenterprises and startups, is set to undergo an independent assessment aimed at expanding and improving its services.
Fort Myers City Council on May 4 approved a $7,250 contract for an administrative and operational review by Economic Development Initiatives Group, based in Bel Air, Maryland.
The assessment is expected to include a five-day site visit in January focused on identifying target markets, a potential anchor tenant and opportunities to enhance educational programming at the center. EDI staff plan to interview existing tenants and staff members and evaluate the facility to determine the best use of the space before issuing a final report.
City staff said the agreement with EDI is intended to position the incubator for growth and long-term sustainability.
