Fort Myers’ Dr. Ann Murphy Knight S.T.A.R.S. Complex could reduce youth program participation amid concerns about funding for the coming fiscal year. Senior Center Manager Amber Ware said the combined budget for S.T.A.R.S. and the Billy Bowlegs Park dropped from about $2.4 million to $2 million. City officials said the S.T.A.R.S. budget itself increased from $1.88 million to $2.04 million. They attributed the overall decline to about $375,000 in expenses eliminated while Billy Bowlegs is closed for construction. Ware said the changes could still force S.T.A.R.S. to limit participation in programs that are currently at capacity, WINK News reports.
