Fort Myers pushes to reopen Hurricane Ian-damaged yacht basin

Fort Myers officials are seeking to expedite permits needed to rebuild the city’s yacht basin, which has remained closed since Hurricane Ian damaged the waterfront facility in September 2022.

Fort Myers officials are pushing to accelerate reconstruction of the city’s Hurricane Ian-damaged yacht basin, nearly four years after the storm left the waterfront facility closed behind fencing. Rep. Greg Steube and Mayor Kevin Anderson met July 7 to discuss the project, which is awaiting a permit from the Army Corps of Engineers before construction can begin. City leaders said the federal permit is among the final hurdles for the long-delayed project. The yacht basin, a key downtown waterfront attraction, has remained closed since Hurricane Ian devastated Southwest Florida in September 2022. Officials said they will continue working with federal agencies to move the project forward, WINK News reports.
