Lee County commissioners voted to rename the Lee County Civic Center Complex in honor of their late colleague, District 5 Commissioner Mike Greenwell. The facility will now be known as Mike Greenwell Regional Park. Commissioners also held a moment of silence Oct. 21 and announced that flags at all state buildings in Lee County would fly at half-staff in his memory. A native of Lee County and former Boston Red Sox player, Greenwell died Oct. 9 at age 62. He was appointed to the board in 2022 and reelected in 2024.
