Negotiations between the School District of Lee County and the Teachers Association of Lee County stalled Sept. 15, with no tentative contract agreement reached. The district has proposed a $30 million salary package, representing a 7% increase, raising the starting teacher salary from $50,500 to $54,500. The offer also includes bereavement and parental leave, changes to terminal pay and five additional minutes for staff lunch. In return, the district is seeking 45 extra work minutes per week. The union has pushed back, opposing a move toward an impasse that could bring in a special magistrate. Both sides agreed to meet again Sept. 22.
