An aerial view of Marco Island in Collier County.
A Marco Island citizen survey found that 77% of respondents consider the city better than neighboring communities, but 56% believe it is headed in the wrong direction. Residents cited overdevelopment, traffic congestion, canal water quality and concerns about city government as major issues. Bicycle and e-bike safety and infrastructure maintenance also ranked among their priorities. The city partnered with OnPointe Insights to conduct the survey, which received 2,471 responses between Sept. 24 and Oct. 12. City officials plan to provide additional information about revenue options, water quality initiatives and infrastructure projects.
