Naples medtech partners with AI surgery startup

Naples-based Catalyst OrthoScience has become the founding shoulder partner of Redefine Surgery as the surgical technology startup brings its total capital raised to $10 million. Redefine said its latest financing round, backed predominantly by surgeon investors, will support development of technology combining computer vision, artificial intelligence and robotics as it moves toward commercialization. Catalyst and Redefine plan to develop an integrated system for shoulder replacement spanning preoperative planning, intraoperative guidance, workflow optimization and procedural analysis. The companies are targeting up to four times greater procedural efficiency and technology costs up to 10 times lower than existing approaches. Redefine's platform remains under development, with commercialization subject to regulatory clearance and product readiness.
