Big Carlos Pass Bridge rendering

A rendering shows the new fixed-span Big Carlos Pass Bridge connecting Fort Myers Beach and Lovers Key, set to open to traffic Nov. 14.

The new fixed-span Big Carlos Pass Bridge will open to traffic Nov. 14, with lanes shifting overnight beginning at 11 p.m. Nov. 13. Once traffic moves to the new bridge, LeeTran trolley stops on the east side will reopen. Pedestrians and bicyclists are urged to use caution, as the area remains an active construction zone. The $90.8 million Lee County project connects Estrellita Drive on Fort Myers Beach to Lovers Key State Park and includes travel lanes, bike lanes and pedestrian paths. The old bridge will later be dismantled and used as an artificial reef. Completion of the project is expected in summer 2026.
