Volunteers raise walls for Habitat home in Lehigh Acres

Volunteers, including Publix associates, help raise the walls of a new Habitat for Humanity home in Lehigh Acres on Feb. 28, part of a project supported by a $250,000 grant from Publix Super Markets Charities.

Habitat for Humanity of Lee and Hendry Counties received a $250,000 grant from Publix Super Markets Charities to support affordable housing efforts, including a new home in Lehigh Acres. More than 25 volunteers, including Publix associates, helped raise the walls of the home Feb. 28 alongside the future homeowner. The project is part of 54 homes Habitat plans to build locally this fiscal year. Since 2015, Publix Charities has contributed more than $69 million toward housing initiatives across the Southeast. Habitat requires buyers to complete sweat equity hours, financial training and maintain affordable mortgage payments.
